# Word Preparation #

## twist: 转折 ##

an unexpected change in a story or situation

The story has a surprise twist in the end.  
这个故事在结尾时出现了一个出人意料的转折。

I like watching movies that have a really good twist.  
我喜欢看剧情有巧妙反转的电影。

## liking: 喜好，爱好 ##

a feeling of appreciation for something

She has a strong liking for detective novels.  
她极为喜欢侦探一类的小说。

Her uncle began to have a liking for poetry when he was a boy.  
当她叔叔还是个小孩子的时候，他就已经开始喜欢诗歌了。

## strong cast: 演员阵容 ##

having a lot of famous actors/actresses in a movie

This movie is expected to be a box-office success since it has a strong cast.  
这部电影预计会取得票房成功，因为它有强大的演员阵容。

*The Expendables* is an action movie with a strong cast.  
《敢死队》是一部汇集了强大演员阵容的动作电影。

## tend to do sth: 倾向于做某事 ##

likely to do something

My friends tend to pick love stories over funny stories.  
与滑稽故事相比，我的朋友们更倾向于选择爱情故事。

Sally tends to wear dark colors when she goes to work.  
Sally去上班时更倾向于穿深色的衣服。

## of good quality: 优质的 ##

having well-made characteristics

My friend suggested I spend more money and buy a computer of good quality.

Ben’s wife bought him a watch of good quality on his birthday.

## smash hit: 巨大成功 ##

a popular and successful play, song, or movie

The play I saw last night was a smash hit.

# Grammar #

## rarely, seldom和hardly ##

1.  rarely 和 seldom 意为 “很少”，表频率，相当于 not often。与rarely相比，seldom更正式，更书面。
2.  hardly 意为 “几乎不”，表程度。

*  He rarely asks questions at the meeting.
 *  She was seldom seen in public.
 *  We had hardly arrived when he asked us to leave.
